Field trip in eastern coastal region
on Monday, June 5, 2006 (see the map 2 at the bottom).
For the Eastern Field Trip, participants will travel to
the
Carnivorous Plant Nursery (16128 Deer Lake Road, Derwood, MD 20855)
nearby Washington DC and the
Meadowview
Botanical Research Station (8390 Fredericksburg Turnpike, Woodford,
Virginia 22580). There we will see a wide range of cultivated
Sarracenia,
Drosera, and
Utricularia on a setting overlooking
a lake and a marsh filled with waterlilies (
Nymphaea alba).
We will also hear about the activities of the station in reestablishing
carnivorous and non-carnivorous plants in the Eastern US. Meadowview
sells many different species of cp's, including
Aldrovanda,
so attendees will have the opportunity to buy plants there.
NEW Post: On its return to Frostburg,
the Eastern Fieldtrip will make a stop at BWI Airport. Many attendees
will fly out of BWI, and others will find it a convenient stopping
point for visiting other cp enthusiasts in the Washington area. A
map of the location of BWI Airport relative to other sites in the
Washington area can be found at:
http://www.bwiairport.com/directions_parking/washington_d_c__virginia/.
BWI has many nearby hotels which run shuttle buses to the airport--for
a list, see
http://www.bwiairport.com/around_town/accommodations/
Fieldtrip participants can expect to arrive at BWI in the early evening
of June 5. Those wishing to return to Frostburg for the night can
do so with the vans or in their own cars.
