Frostburg State University’s Program of General Education is predicated on our the belief in the concept of a liberal education: that students learn more completely and more deeply when components of general education and the majors are interwoven to offer multiple opportunities to develop connections between disciplines, theories, and ideas.

As a result, we offer a program of general education that fully integrates itself into each major and into the experience of undergraduate education as a whole through the use of the “vertical core” concept: a pedagogical approach that engages students in both lower-and upper-level courses of general education that are spread throughout their academic careers.

In recent years, Frostburg State University took part a three-year effort to review and revise FSU's undergraduate programs. This Undergraduate Education Initiative led to changes in the general education program as well as other programs.

Please review the Undergraduate Education Initiative (UEI) web site for more information.
