Majors and Career Choices
Choosing a major and career path is one of the most rewarding and challenging decisions you will face throughout your college experience. When you think about it, however, the decision is not etched in stone and can change throughout your education and lifetime. So relax, clear your mind, and consider these two important steps in finding your fit in the world of work.

Step 1
Self Assessment: Make Your Career Decision Your Own

Choose a major that suits you; not your parents, friends, or society. Talk to a career counselor in the Office of Career Services about your major/career choices. Assess your interests, abilities, likes and dislikes by using the following tools:

The Career Key: This is a helpful inventory of interests linking to different career and occupational fields.

Kiersey Temperament Sorter II: Assess how your personality preferences/style may describe the type of person you are. It is important to find out how your personality fits with different career fields and work environments.

Step 2
Explore Majors and Careers: Research & Informational for Researching Majors and Careers

University of North Carolina-Wilmington lists job titles and career information for 36 majors.

Outlook Handbook Informational provides I information on 250 Occupational Fields

The Personal Side of Work: Actual Informational Interviews with People about their careers from Accounting to Zoology.
