Collegiate Learning Assessment Initiative

Frostburg State University is participating in the Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) as part of its overarching goal to promote transparency and consistency in the assessment of student learning and development. The CLA measures students’ critical thinking, analytical reasoning, problem solving, and written communication skills. It compares freshmen and senior academic achievement and examines whether improvement in average student performance between entry and graduation is in line with  comparable students at other institutions.  Participation involves testing a sample of 100 FSU freshmen in the fall and 100 seniors in the spring.

CLA 2009-2010 Initiative:
In fall 2009, we met our goal of assessing 100 first-time students. In spring 2010, we assessed 87 graduating seniors to wrap up the 2009-2010 Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) initiative. FSU received a report of findings from the Council for Aid to Education in summer 2010.
