Assessment is the systematic collection of information about student learning, using the time, knowledge, expertise, and resources available, in order to inform decisions on how to improve learning.” (Walvoord, B. [2004], p. 2. Assessment clear and simple: A practical guide for institutions, departments, and general education. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass).

In its mission statement, Frostburg State University has committed to this concept of assessment as part of the teaching and learning process in its goal to “Develop a student learning assessment plan that sets forth realistic standards for good practices, systematically gathers data, and improves university programs and services.”
