Plant Facts - Black cohosh, Actaea racemosa

  • This plant was also called the black snake root because the juice of the plant used to be used for snake bites.
  • Black cohosh's flowers have a sweet but yucky smell that attracts flies.
  • Bugbane is another name for black cohosh because of the bad-smelling flowers.
