Plant Facts - Mayapple, Podophyllum peltatum

  • This is called mayapple because the fruit (which is green like some apples) appears around May.
  • The flower and fruit always grow between and below the two large umbrella-like leaves.
  • All parts of the plant are actually poisonous, except the fruit which is often used to make jellies.
