AustraLearn: Australia for a Semester or Academic Year   (also short courses, internships, and full degree courses)

Starting in 2000, FSU became an affiliate of AustraLearn, which is a nonprofit study abroad program provider located in Denver, Colorado. It is uniquely placed to offer many different types of educational experiences for North American students who want to study 'down under' in Australia or New Zealand. AustraLearn offers programs of differing lengths at a wide variety of Australian and New Zealand universities, including custom designed courses. Students are given a full week's orientation upon arrival, discounted airfares, guidance with the application process, and transcript evaluation on completion of the program. There are also scheduled excursions throughout the country during the program.

Dates: The academic calendar in Australia begins in February, so Semester 1 typically takes place from February to June/July, while Semester 2 takes place from July through November. Short courses are offered during North American break periods in July, August and January. Internships can be arranged individually.

Course Offerings: Each university offers a different listing of courses. Please check the program catalog in the CIE Office, or ask to see a specific course catalog for the university you wish to attend. All courses must be approved for transfer by your Academic Advisor and the CIE Director prior to departure.

Costs: Program costs range from $6,300 to $12,200, depending on the university and whether housing and meals are included. The full program fee includes full time tuition, fees, health coverage, housing, meals and one-week orientation excursion. Other costs will include airfare (approximately $1,650 from LA), local transportation ($500), and personal expenses, including textbooks ($1,800). Please note that AustraLearn offers a number of scholarships for students who meet eligibility requirements.

Accommodation: Students are encouraged to stay on campus in residence halls. Some of the universities have their own off-campus housing facilities which are also recommended. Housing arrangements are made before departure, and all costs are included in the program fee.
