American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)
Fall semester, Spring Semester, Summer, Full Academic Year

For more than 30 years the American Institute of Foreign Study has offered a variety of study abroad programs at various institutions throughout the world. Programs are offered in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, England, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, South Africa and Spain.

Dates: Please note that the dates for each AIFS program vary, but all are listed in the AIFS program catalog available in the CIE office. Most overseas universities have fall semesters which run from September to January (15 credits), or fall terms which run from September to December (12 credits only), and spring semesters which run from January or February to May, June or July, depending on the length of the spring recess. Pay special attention to dates for colleges and universities in the southern hemisphere, which usually begin their year in mid-February and finish in November.

Course Offerings: Each college or university offers a different listing of courses. Please check the program catalog in the CIE office, or ask to see a specific course catalog for the university you wish to attend. All courses must be approved for transfer by your Academic Advisor and the CIE Director prior to departure.

Costs: FSU students pay the AIFS program fee for however long they will be studying overseas (see catalog in CIE office for details). All students are also required to pay a $50 nonrefundable application fee to AIFS, and a $150 nonrefundable administration fee to FSU once they are accepted. Additional costs will include a return airline ticket (AIFS pays for your ticket overseas), a passport, additional travel while overseas, an ISIC card, medical insurance, and a refundable damage deposit.

Accommodation: Students will be housed in local student hostels, with families, or on the university campus itself. Some housing will include some meals, while other types of housing will be self-catered. Check the AIFS catalog for details.
