Centro de Estudios Interamericanos, Cuenca, Ecuador
Intersession only

Salisbury State University offers a four-week program in Cuenca, Ecuador at the Centro de Estudios Interamericanos (CEI). Cuenca is located high in a valley in Ecuador's southern Andes, and is the third largest city in the country. Students may take courses in the Spanish language, Spanish literature, Latin American Studies, and Latin American Women's Studies. Biology students finish their intersession with a visit to the Amazon.

Dates: Dates vary each year, but generally students will depart right after Christmas and return during the third week of January. For the 2004 intersession students will depart on 26 December, 2003 and return on 24 January, 2004.

Course Offerings: Courses on offer include Spanish courses in language, culture and literature of the region, Environmental Issues in Ecuador, Latin American Women, Modern Latin America, and Survival Spanish.

Costs: The cost of the program for 2004 is $2,500 - $3,000. This fee includes in-state tuition for 3 credits, round trip airfare from Baltimore/Washington International (or Reagan International or Newark International) airport, accommodation (see below), meals (except during field trips), field trips, airport transfers and US taxes, and travel assistance. It does not include passport, ISIC card, FSU administrative fee ($150), personal expenses or additional health insurance. A deposit of $50 to Salisbury is due with the application and the first payment is due in early October. [Prices are based on a model with 15 participants and may be subject to change, depending on final numbers.]

Accommodation: Students are all housed with families in Cuenca for full immersion in the Ecuadorian culture and language.
