Study Abroad Home > Programs > Semester/Year > IRELAND PROGRAM The exchange program between Mary Immaculate College and FSU began in 1991. Students from MIC spend a semester or year at FSU while FSU students spend the spring semester at MIC. Students may also opt to spend the fall semester or the entire year in Limerick. Some special arrangements are available for Education majors who want to do student teaching (inquire at the CIE for further information). Dates: The dates change slightly each year, but generally the fall semester at MIC begins in September and finishes in January with a three week break over the holiday season in December. The spring semester runs from early February to late May, with usually one week for Easter recess. Students arrive one week before classes start in February. Course Offerings: In the fall semester FSU students are required to enroll for at least 12 credits or four MIC courses. Courses with FSU approved equivalents include courses in English, History, Philosophy, Communications and Media, Art, Geography, Computer Science, Religious Studies and Women's Studies. Other courses may also have FSU equivalents, but students should make individual inquiries at the CIE office or with their academic advisors. In the spring, all students take one FSU course and three Mary I courses. In spring 2007 Ms. Kate Keely, Dept. of Fine Arts (301-687-3209, 224 Fine Arts) will be teaching the following three FSU courses: ART 100, 'Art Appreciation', ART 370, 'Women Artists of the Americas', and ART 490, 'Drawing with Mixed Media'. Students must enroll in one of these three courses. Costs: All FSU students will pay for their one FSU course directly to FSU, and for their Mary Immaculate courses (530 Euros per course) directly to MIC upon arrival. Students will also be required to pay a $150 administrative fee to cover program costs. Students will pay for their round-trip airline ticket which will cost approximately $450-700, depending upon the time of year and whether students return with the group or stay on to travel in Europe after the course finishes. Additional costs include a passport ($85), travel while overseas, an ISIC card ($22), any additional health insurance, and room and board (see below). Accommodation: Students will be housed in the City Campus Hostel near the MIC campus (see link below). Costs are generally $1,300-1,600 for four months rent, depending on whether the room is a single or shared room. A deposit of approximately 250 Euros is required prior to departure. The remainder is paid upon arrival. All housing is self-catered, so students will need to buy food. Food generally costs $800-$100 for four months. Links: Mary
