Study Abroad Home > Programs > Study in Quebec, Canada through the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi Intersession only Each January since 1990, FSU students have had the opportunity to take part in an intensive French language program at the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi. The program is called 'French and Snow' and features three weeks of French language classes combined with a cultural introduction to the winter delights of northern Quebec. Students are tested for language ability before being placed in the correct level of instruction. Classes take place in the morning. Afternoons are spent visiting local sites, snowboarding, dog-sledding, igloo building, skiing, and much more.
Dates: The program normally takes place during the first three weeks of January (2006: January 8 to January 28). Course Offerings: Students may take one three-credit French language course along with the cultural program for one credit. Normally this will transfer back to FSU as three credits of French (at the appropriate level) and one credit of MDFL 290. Costs: Costs will vary from year to year, but in general the overall program cost is approximately $1,400 (or $2,000 Canadian). This covers all tuition and fees, housing, meals, health insurance, and local transportation, including several excursions.
Accommodation: Students live with Quebecoise families during their stay in Chicoutimi in order to immerse themselves totally in the local culture. Meals are taken at home with the family and at the cafeteria in the student center, although students may buy meals out as well.
