Related Information > The Weather in Frostburg Most students enjoy the variety of activities made possible by the four distinct seasons experienced in Western Maryland. The academic year begins in late August, and during the summer, daytime temperatures typically range from 70 to 82 degrees F (22-28 degrees C). Occasionally the daytime high exceeds 90 degrees F (33 degrees C), encouraging students to enjoy the sun as well as swimming and boating in nearby state parks. Summer nights are usually cool and comfortable. Storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes generally do not occur in Frostburg, but thunderstorms do occur during the summer. Fall lasts from mid-September through November with temperatures ranging between 35 and 70 degrees F (2-23 degrees C), providing sunny but cool weather for hiking, biking and other sports. Winter continues from December through the end of March and typically provides Frostburg with more than 60 inches (150 cm) of snow a season. January, with the heaviest snowfall, is the best for downhill and cross-country skiing. Spring arrives with April and lasts until mid-June.
