FSU and Middle States Accreditation

Frostburg State University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

MSCHE’s seven Standards of Excellence serve to assess compliance with federal requirements and help to affirm FSU’s mission and goals remain within the context from which these accreditation standards are applied. They emphasize functions rather than specific structures, recognizing that there are many different models for educational and operational excellence. Within the context of our mission, Frostburg focuses on criteria specific to each of the seven standards to demonstrate compliance, demonstrated directly through FSU’s annual reporting to the Commission, which serves as the foundation for our next self-study in 2023.
