Welcome to the Parents’ Program of Frostburg State University’s Preview FSU. The Parents’ Orientation of Preview FSU provides you the opportunity to meet with University faculty and administrators.
Your sessions include presentations on academic affairs, student activities, commuter student issues, and residence hall living, among others.
A detailed schedule will be provided upon registration in the Performing Arts Center of the first day of your conference. The opening session begins at 9:30 a.m.; however, we invite you to join us for coffee and refreshments from 8:00-9:30 a.m.
While parents and students will be together at the beginning of orientation and later in the afternoon, prior to course selection they will have separate program tracks. This gives students the opportunity for placement testing, meeting other students, having their advisor get to know them and actual registration. It gives the parents the opportunity to learn about support services and information of more immediate interest to them.
This program is a two-day commitment, beginning at 9:30 a.m. the first day and ending at approximately noon on the second day.
When do I come and where do I stay . . . . .
We encourage you to attend Preview FSUwith your son or daughter. While the student and parent programs are separate, they do occur concurrently. Therefore, it is important that you make your plans to attend with the knowledge of your son/daughter’s assigned time. Student assignments are made after they complete all requested materials and return them to us.
All students are required to stay on campus during the entire time of the conference. Fees for orientation are included in the University bill which the student will receive at a later date. Parents pay no fee for attending; however, parents are responsible for their own room and board.
Parents are expected to make their own room reservations for lodging. The University will offer parents the opportunity to purchase some meals on campus. Otherwise, parents are free to eat anywhere they choose.
What else do I need to know . . . . .
- If you have not traveled to Frostburg, you should allow at least three hours driving time from either the Baltimore or Washington region. Please click here for driving directions and a campus map.
- You should make your lodging reservations early. Families find it attractive and convenient to spend the night in our area when traveling through Western Maryland. Available space, in the hotel of your choice, may be limited for this reason.
- The University hosts several conferences on campus during the summer. Space on campus is limited; therefore, it is essential that we keep our groups a manageable size. We will fill spaces as commitments are made to us until we reach the limit for a group.
- The weather can be chilly in the evenings, please pack appropriately.
We look forward to seeing you at the Conference. |
