What is Blackboard Collaborate? Blackboard Collaborate give you the functionality you need in a 21st century teaching and learning environment, such as two-way audio, multi-point video, interactive whiteboard, application and desktop sharing, rich media, breakout rooms, and session recording. Educators and students can engage as if they were in a traditional classroom. How Do I Schedule a Blackboard Collaborate Session? The term ‘session’ refers to a virtual classroom, virtual office space and/or meeting. To request an Blackboard Collaborate Session, use the Blackboard Collaborate Session Request Form. When your request has been filled, you will receive an email containing a link to your session. How Do I Use Blackboard Collaborate? To begin using Blackboard Collaborate first go to Blackboard Collaborate Support Portal site to determine that you have correct system requirements. This is especially important for first time users. It is recommended that you have a noise canceling, USB headset with microphone capabilities (click here for recommendations). The headset should be connected to your computer and working before you start up Blackboard Collaborate. For those interested in using Blackboard Collaborate's video conference capabilities, (and do not currently have a web camera installed) we suggest a USB web camera (click here for recommendations). The web camera should be connected to your computer and working before you start up Blackboard Collaborate. For instructors, we highly recommend using the recorded training provided for Moderators. Direct your students to the recorded training sessions for Participants. Basic Requirements and Tech Support A web browser and a Java plug-in are required. As suggested above, prior to the start of your session, visit the Blackboard Collaborate Support Portal to run a check on the computer you will be using.
