November 2006

Time to get ready for another influenza season. Inactivated Influenza Vaccine (flu shot) will be available at Brady Health during a flu clinic on November 8th from 3:30pm - 5:30pm and thereafter by appointment. The cost of the flu shot will be $20 this year payable by cash, check or Bobcat Express. Our initial shipment of vaccine has arrived and a second shipment is due on or about November 15, 2006. Vaccine is widely available at several sites in the community also.

The Allegany County Health Department will be conducting a flu clinic for the general public on November 16th at FSU in the PE Center from 9:00am - 3:30 pm. Faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend that clinic if they desire. The cost of the vaccination there is also $20.00

Anyone can get influenza. Influenza is spread from person to person through the air by coughing and sneezing. It is also spread by direct contact with infected people. Influenza can be a serious disease that causes severe complications such as pneumonia. It also can make heart disease or chronic lung disease worse.

For the quickest recovery from influenza, get pleanty of rest; drink fluids like juice, water, or hot tea; and take an aspiran substitue for muscle aches and fever. If a fever lasts more than 3 or 4 days, call for Brady Health for an appointment.

YEARLY VACCINATION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WAY TO PREVENT INFLUENZA.
