Storybook Holiday

Saturday, December 3, 2016

Bundle up and join in the winter festivities of this year's Storybook Holiday on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016! Start the day off with breakfast, where the elves are there to serve and entertain you (tickets sold in advance). Immediately after, join the eleves outside to cheer on your favorites during the traditional Elf Olympics, followed by a magical parade down Main Street. Then, come see City Place turned into a winter wonderland, filled with family fun activities for all. Throughout the day, elves will be hosting an author/illustrator presentation, storybook readings, and the annual Cookie Contest. End the day by watching a classic holiday movie at our wonderful Palace Theatre.

Harry Potter Book Night

February 2, 2017

During the first week of February, the third annual Harry Potter Book Night, sponsored by the Children's Literature Centre, the Lewis J. Ort Library, and Student and Community Involvement of FSU, will bring the magic of the 'Harry Potter' book series to Frostburg. The night consists of book readings, a wand shop, Hogwarts classes, and a costume contest. Come and see what magic we have in store!

The Children's Literature Centre was created to promote literacy by:

  • Providing a focal point for the study and dissemination of children's literature.
  • Serving as the catalyst for new and innovative approaches to building the foundations of literacy through technology.
  • Developing positive attitudes toward reading through a collaborative network including home, school and community.
  • Working to cultivate an awareness and understanding of current children's literature, authors and illustrators.
  • Building a bridge to cultural understanding through children's literature.
