Experiencing Leadership (XL) Learning Community
A comprehensive freshman orientation program that gets students studying outside the classroom and discovering their potential as sustainable leaders.
Experiencing Leadership (XL) is a learning community of students who will be involved with university programming and activities, attend cultural performances, and learn how to effectively participate in and managing student organizations.
This unique learning community facilitated by the Office of Leadership & Experiential Learning engages students in their freshman year with on-campus involvement. By combining Orientation with a class that focuses on exploring leadership, students will gain an understanding of how to apply their newfound skills with university programming.
Students develop leadership skills through white water rafting, camping, hiking and engaging in a range of activities outside of the classroom. Students attend the Leadership Retreat, participate in HELP weekend and make trips to areas like Bear Rock, Rocky Gap, the Bird Sanctuary.
Learn skills such as cooking, hygeine, water purification, navigation, wilderness travel and more.
