Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, a student must meet ALL of the following criteria:
 

• reside in one of the following Maryland counties or regions
  
  -Garrett
  
  -Allegany
  
  -Washington
  
  -Frederick (must attend one of these high schools: Gov. Thomas Johnson HS, Frederick HS or Brunswick HS or one of the feeder middle schools)
  
  -Baltimore City
• currently be in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade
• meet the federal income guidelines and/or be a first generation college student (neither parent/guardian with whom the student lives has a bachelor's degree)

This is a competitive application process and an applicant must demonstrate both:
 

• an interest in pursuing a career in mathematics or science and
• academic potential
