In the summer of 2003, students studied:

mammals

Comparison of tree growth and small mammal populations

wetlands

Comparison of plant diversity in wetlands

ethnobotany

Investigation of the knowledge concerning medicinal plant use

In the summer of 2002, students studied energy sources and how they affect the environment. You can read about the research the students conducted on stream resilience to acid deposition, mirror enhancement of solar panels, and wind turbines below.

amd

10th grade study of the effects of acid depositions on streams

solar

11th grade study of solar energy

turbines

12th grade study of wind turbines

In the summer of 2001, students studied alternative energy sources. You can read about the research the students conducted on hydrogen, wind turbines, and solar energy below.

fuel cells

10th grade- Hydrogen Sources for Fuel Cells

turbine

11th grade-Wind Turbine Designs

solar

12th grade- Difference in Energy Collection of Seasonal vs. Year-round Angles in a Fixed Solar Array

In the summer of 2000, students conducted scientific research on the following topics:

10th grade - The Density and Diversity of Grasshopper Communities in Western Maryland 11th grade- Diet Differentiation and Habitat Selection of Birds in Forested and Clear-cut Areas 12th grade- Acid Deposition Study: The investigation was a capstone study for a project RMSC students had been working on since 1997. Students conducted a multi-year study of potential impacts of acid deposition on stream water quality and aquatic life.

A copy of the research paper compiled by the students in 1999 is available in PDF format: 1999 Summer Research Paper. (You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print this file)
