Tutoring > Peer (Individual) Tutoring

1.  The Writing Center offers tutoring to students in almost any course without a referral from an instructor or advisor.  A few instructors may require that students seek permission to receive tutoring, and this policy is made known to the students in those classes.

2.  Content tutoring offered by our program is open to all students who have been recommended by their instructors or advisors.  We attempt to restrict tutoring to entry-level courses; however, case-by-case arrangements can be made if an instructor or advisor believes that a student in an upper level course should receive tutoring.  Some examples, by department, of entry level courses:

  • Accounting 201 & 202
  • Economics 201 & 202
  • Bioscience 109 & 149
  • Geography 103 & 104
  • Chemistry 101, 102 & 112
  • Mathematics Level I & ll courses
  • Computer Science 100 & 200
  • Physics 215 & 216

3.  Students seeking a tutor must be recommended by their instructor or their advisor.  The student must return the completed, signed recommendation form for tutoring to the Learning Assistance Center, located in Room 150 Pullen Hall.  This form, as well as any other form you may need, can be downloaded from the Tutor Forms page.  Special requests for upper-level tutoring, of any kind, should be made directly to Jay Hegeman, Director, at the Learning Assistance Center.

4.  Students must apply for a tutor in person at the Learning Center.  However, we will not assign a student to a tutor unless we have a completed, signed recommendation form.
