Meet The LAP Staff
The Learning Assistance Programs Staff is dedicated to
providing the essential tools necessary for a student's success in college.
The staff is made up of courteous, friendly, and supporting professionals
striving to create a supportive atmosphere for students. Click

Jay is responsible
for PASS (Programs for Academic Support and Studies), which includes
the Learning Assistance Programs, Upward Bound, and the Regional
Math/Science Center (a summer science program for selected high
school students). He is originally from Bel Air, MD.
He received both his B.S. in Psychology and his Master's in Counseling
Psychology from Frostburg State University. In addition to
overseeing all PASS programs, he teaches Introduction to Higher
Education classes, supervises tutors, and acts as an academic advisor
to selected first year students.

Beth is
the Math Specialist for the PASS office. Beth received her
B.S. in Math from Frostburg State University and her M.S. in Math
from West Virginia University. She coordinates the University's
developmental math program as well as teaches developmental mathematics
courses and Introduction to Higher Education classes for incoming
freshman. She is in charge of hiring and supervising
math tutors. Her other duties include tutoring students
in mathematics and serving as an academic advisor to selected students.

Phoebe directs
the Writing Center for Frostburg State University. She received
her A.A. from Garrett Community College, her B.A. in English from
Frostburg State University, her M.A. in English from Indiana University
of Pennsylvania, and her Ph.D. in English from Bowling Green State
University, in Ohio. She hires, trains, and supervises Writing
Center tutors, holds writing workshops, and tutors students in writing.
She also teaches Critical Reading and Introduction to Higher
Education classes.

Rachel is the Coordinator of Academic Skills Development for the PASS office. Rachel received both her B.A. and Master's in Sociology from Texas Tech University. She coordinates all content tutoring as well as hires, trains and assigns all content area tutors. She also teaches Introduction to Higher Education and Critical Reading. Her other duties include hiring and training Seminar Instructors, tutoring students in study skills and sociology, presenting study skills programs, creating and editing Tutor News and serving as an academic advisor to selected students.

Lois is
the heart of our operation here at the PASS office. Among
other things, she assigns tutors, supervises office staff, maintains
data files and conducts academic skills testing.
