Pre-college Checklist
When helping your son/daughter prepare for college there are many items one might
consider brining. Here are some suggestions:
- Alarm clock (with battery back-up)
- Desk lamp with metal shade
- UL approved waste paper basket
- Posters, or other decorating items with hanging devices: (thumb tacks
for Cambridge, Westminster, Frederick and Frost Halls; double sided
tape or "fun-tack" for all other halls)
- Telephone with a ringer cut-off option, 12 foot cord suggested, desk
top only
- Cell phone, phone card, or other means to make toll calls from room
- Heavy duty extension cord, with surge protector for computer
- Include Residence Hall Room on Home Owners' Insurance
- Towels and washclothes
- Mattress pad, pillow, bedspread, blankets and sheets
- Laundry basket/duffel bag, laundry detergent, fabric softener, iron
- Rain gear/umbrella, boots (cold weather clothes could be brought up
later, as the Fall progresses)
- Hangers
- Blow dryer, curling iron, etc.
- Shampoo, soap and a plastic soap dish, and a tote to carry bathroon
essentials to and from the shower
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and facial tissues
- Mending kit
- Medications, bandages, Tylenol
- All necessary papers: your financial aid forms, class schedules, etc.
- Social Security number
- Computer, if you have one (there are computer labs
available throughout campus)
- Pens, pencils, highlighters, scotch and masking tape, scissors, paper
clips, stapler ... and don't forget the duck tape!
Everything is packed, but there is a little more room? Consider bringing these items:
- Small stereo, compact disk player, television (and cable),
or radio... and don't forget the headphones
- Games
- Camera and plenty of film, and a photo album
- Small flashlight
- Message board for your door
- Sports equipment: tennis racket, skates, etc.
- Snacks and soft drinks
- Utensils (knife, fork, spoon) water glass, cup
- Area rug
