Faculty Resources

Below are some helpful resources for FSU faculty members.  The Tutoring Center works with faculty to recruit and recommend tutors.  The Center also encourages faculty cooperation and feedback in order to improve tutoring services.

Tutoring Philosophy
The Tutoring Center promotes a minimalist approach when it comes to tutor and student interaction.  Tutors do not do homework or edit papers for students; instead, they provide alternative skills, strategies, and perceptions of course concepts so students can become confident, independent learners.

Course Syllabi and Course Materials
Faculty members are encouraged to submit copies of their course syllabi.   Tutors use syllabi to help set goals for their tutees.  Syllabi are also useful in terms of the textbooks being used, quiz and exam dates, and assignment guidelines.  Course materials—PowerPoint presentations, etc.—are also useful for tutors.  Syllabi and course materials can be submitted anytime during the course of the semester to the Tutoring Center director.

Tutoring Center Digital Resources
The Center has twelve computers for tutoring use.  The following software plug-ins are available: My Math Lab and My Econ Lab.  Tutors and students also have access to Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab.  If online resources or software plug-in are used for your course and are not listed, please contact the director.

Faculty Recommendation Form
The Faculty Recommendation form is a part of the application packet students fill out to become tutors.  Potential tutors will ask you to fill out the form.  We are looking for students who are personable, timely, responsible, in good academic standing, and have a good working knowledge of the material they will tutor.  The recommendation can be submitted via campus mail or by e-mail to msmith@frostburg.edu.  Comments made on this form are confidential; only the director will see them.
