Field Trips

Upward Bound ParticipantField Trips are considered to be an integral part of the learning process at Upward Bound—in essence, extended classroom experiences. Field Trips may be planned for both the summer and academic year programs, but most take place in the summer.

During the academic year they can range from college visits, to water quality testing in area streams, to attending a play in Washington, D.C., or to visit local areas of interest. During the summer, they are frequently planned around the summer theme. For example, one summer when the theme was Mission to Mars, trips were taken to the Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, West Virginia, the Challenger Center in Washington, D.C., and the planetarium at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA.
