Minutes

  • Call to order - The minutes from the December 15, 2004 meeting were approved as submitted.
  • Old Business: none.
  • New Business: A request from Dr. Gartner
    • Fritz shared some concerns and requests of Dr. Gartner. The new committee procedure will be that the chair holds the blue sheets until the proposing department provides any changes required by the committee, and at that time the chair will provide the blue sheet for the Dean's signature.
  • Proposals for consideration:
    • Department of Social Work– Dr. Terry Russell– 2:15 PM
      • New Course:
        1. SOWK 473 Generalist Practice with Groups
      • Change of Number/Title/Credits:
        1. SOWK 379 Foundations of Social Work - Change of Title

    • The proposal was approved with the following contingencies:

      • Firmating changes to SOWK 473 syllabus including clearer presentation of assessment percentages and a timeframe for the course outline.
      • Add acknowledgment letters from the African Studies, Women's Studies, and Foreign Languages minor regarding the elimination of options for the social work diversity requirement.
    • Department of Computer Science– Dr. Stephen Owens – 2:45 PM
      • New Course:
        1. COSC 331 Fundamentals of Computer Networks
        2. COSC 444 Introduction to Distributed Programming
      • Change of Catalog Description/Prerequisite:
        1. All Computer Science Courses at 200 level and above - Change of prerequisite
      • Change in Existing Program Requirements:
        1. Computer Science Major
        2. Information Systems Concentration - Certificate in Public Administration

      The proposal was approved with the following contingencies:

      • Clarification on III. B. of the course approval forms for COSC 331 and 444.
      • Add course number to COSC 444.
      • Reword COSC 444 course objectives 4 and 5 from "discuss" to something like "students will demonstrate..."
      • Provide old and new copy for change to ACCT 201 and 211.
      • Add new bullet under requirements for the department to clarify that students must ear a C in a prerequisite before taking a course, and will be de-registered if they earn less than a C in a prerequisite course.
    • Department of Geography– Dr. George White– 3:15 PM
      • Change of Catalog Description/Prerequisites:
        1. GEOG 104 Human Geography
        2. GEOG 114 Honors: Human Geography

      The proposal was approved without contingency.

    • Department of Physics and Engineering - Dr. Oguz Soysal- 3:30PM
      • Change in Catalog Description/Prerequisite
        1. ENME 320 Thermodynamics
        2. ENME 361 Vibration, Controls, and Optimization I
        3. ENME 371 Product Engineering and Manufacturing
        4. ENME 351 Electronics and Instrumentation
        5. ENME 392 Statistical Methods for Product and Process Development

      The proposal was approved with one contingency, to provide old catalog copy of course descriptions to be changed.

    • Department of English - Dr. Gerald Snelson

    The proposal was approved without contingency.
