Accomplishments to Date in FSU Redesign Initiatives

  • PSYC 150: General Psychology - Redesign implemented in 2008. Since that time, the department has seen a 50% increase in the number of psychology majors.
  • DVMT 100: Intermediate Algebra - Redesign implemented in spring 2012. The primary goaol was to reduce a gender achievement gap in the course, and results to date have been extremely encouraging.
  • CMST 102: Introduction to Human Communication - The goal of the redesign was to address bottlenecking and course drift. The redesign was piloted in Fall 2011 with full implementation in Spring 2012. Results indicate a tightening of the curriculum and lower cost per student credit hour.
  • ENGL 101: Freshman Composition - Partial implementation will take place in Fall 2012. The goal is to address high failure rates, course drift, grade drift, and high reliance on adjunct faculty. The redesign will include an increase in individualized instruction, as well as a Practicum in the Teaching of Writing and Emphasis in the Teaching of Writing.
  • MATH 102: College Algebra - Partial implementation will take place in Fall 2012. The redesign is intended to address course drift, inadequate preparation for later courses, and high failure/withdrawal rates.
