Academically, Folklore and Ethnobotany will converge as Dr. Rogers Thomas and Dr. Linda Lyon (Biology) team up to create a new First-Year FSU Colloquia “Experiencing Appalachia.” The course will draw from history, environmental sciences, economics, and folklife studies to engage in an examination of Appalachian regionalism. Dr. Rogers Thomas will offer one section of the course (IDIS 150.003) in Fall ‘05, and she and Dr. Lyon will each offer a section in Spring ‘06.

Sociology 491: “Folklore in Appalachia” was offered in Spring ‘05. Using Appalachia as its locus of study, the course encourages students to recognize and examine the significance of folklore in everyday life. Look for the course again in ‘07.
