Achievements Honored at FSU Convocation
The recipients
of the 2008 Faculty Achievement Awards, along with the top graduating
students from every degree program, will be honored at the Frostburg State
University Honors Convocation at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16, in the Pealer
Recital Hall Performing Arts Center.
This years Faculty Achievement Award recipients are Dr. Hongqi Li,
Department of Biology, for academic accomplishment; Dr. Evan Offstein,
Department of Management, for academic accomplishment; and Dr. Oguz A.
Soysal, Department of Physics and Engineering, for university and community
service. The awards are made possible through generous gifts to the FSU
Foundation, Inc.

Hosts 2008 Savage Mountain Summer Arts Academy
Frostburg State University will host the 2008 Savage Mountain Summer Arts
Academy. The Academy offers a variety of programs for students entering
grades nine through 12. This years programs include Creative Writing,
Wind Chamber Music, Physical Acting and Stage Combat, Choir and Two-Dimensional
Design institutes. Each program is a week long and offers students the
option of residing on campus or commuting. For more information, visit

New Frostburg
State University Engineering Program Receives OK
The Maryland Higher Education Commission recently approved Frostburg State
Universitys proposal to offer a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
degree, with the first students eligible to enroll in the fall of 2008.
The new
program will allow students to pursue concentrations in electrical engineering,
materials engineering, industrial chemistry and engineering management.
University officials expect prospective students to be attracted to the
added flexibility of the program, which also makes it possible to pursue
second majors or minors in disciplines such as physics, mathematics, chemistry
or business.
FSU Dedicates
Bayer MaterialScience Chemistry Lab
Frostburg
State University today dedicated the Bayer MaterialScience Chemistry Lab
in the Compton Science Center in recognition of a donation of lab equipment
and supplies valued at $225,000. Dr. Barry Phillips, a 1969 graduate of
Frostburg and a Bayer senior vice president for NAFTA,HSEQ and Future
Business, who was crucial in arranging the donation, was on hand for the
celebration.

Magazine E=(LG)2 Makes Debut at FSU
The first issue of the new student-written and student-edited magazine,
E=(LG)2, is now available. The magazine, which focuses on environmental
issues pertaining to Frostburg State University, was a semester-long project
for Sydney Duncans English 402 class. Though the print run of the
spring 2008 magazine is limited, the magazine may be found online at http://organizations.frostburg.edu/LgMag/LgMag1.pdf.

Chapter of the Wildlife Society Takes Second in Regional Conference
Frostburg State Universitys Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society
placed second overall at the Southeastern Wildlife Conclave held at Paris
Landing State Park, Tenn., from March 13 to March 15.

Summer Writers Conference to be Held in Frostburg
The Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing is holding
its first Nightsun Summer Writers Conference for local and regional
writers from July 31 to Aug. 3, at Failingers Gunter Hotel in Frostburg.
Frostburg
State University Taking Applications for Summer Math Center
Applications are now being accepted for children who will be entering
grades five through nine in fall 2008 for the Maryland Summer Center
for Mathematics: Art of Problem Solving, Algebra, Statistics, and Geometry
with Technology. The program will be held at Frostburg State University
from July 21 through Aug. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Sunday Programs Offered at FSU Planetarium, Exploratorium
Frostburg
State University presents Science Sundays this year, with
free programs offered in both the Tawes Hall Planetarium and the Compton
Science Center Exploratorium every Sunday.
The 45-minute Planetarium shows are at 4 and 7 p.m., followed by a 30-minute
tour at approximately 5 and 8 p.m. of the Exploratorium, which will revolving
displays of FSUs extensive collection of mammal specimens from around
the world.
