The Frostburg Museum has raised its profile throughout the community in recent years, particularly with the opening of the art gallery. But, what if it became a driving force on campus, too? During the last three semesters, my goal as Gallery Director has been not only to draw in more student and faculty visitors, but to actively involve them as contributors to the museum, and to expand its programs. By giving students a chance to show their work, spreading the word on campus, and consistently communicating with a variety of departments, this goal is slowly but surely being met. Attendance at the shows has been up, but more importantly, we are giving students a chance to work with local artists and see what showing outside of a school setting is like. For the 2013-2014 academic year, my goal is to expand even further, by developing artist workshops and a children’s program. I would like to call on help from multiple departments, including Art Education and Early Childhood Education. Although this project does not have an “end”, it most certainly has a “means”- and I would like Frostburg State University to be a part of it.
