Ralph E. Jordan

College of Business Alumnus of the Year, 2005

Ralph E. Jordan is a recognized leader, innovator, and entrepreneur in the healthcare industry. His 30+ years of knowledge and experience in sales, marketing, and management give him tremendous insight into the healthcare industry.

Trident Health Resources, Inc., is recognized as the most trusted name in temporary and long term perfusion contract services in the United States. In 1988, Jordan introduced what is now a clearly proven concept: hospitals using outside certified providers of cardiovascular technology and advance services to fulfill the needs of the cardiovascular surgical team.

Jordan, as President and CEO, has spearheaded the company’s expansion by adding new service lines such as revenue optimization, peer review, risk management services, practice acquisition/mergers, system management, and investment capital, among others.

In 2001 Jordan formed Trident Healthcare de Puerto Rico to provide perfusion services in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean basin. The company has set the standards for perfusion services in Puerto Rico.

Although raised in the United States, Jordan is a native of Puerto Rico with deep family roots in Trujillo Alto and Utuado. He obtained a BA degree from Frostburg State University and over the years has taken post-graduate courses in Finance and Sales and Marketing.

Jordan began his professional career in the healthcare industry as sales representative for the Flint Division of Baxter Laboratories. Later he joined Johnson and Johnson Corporation and was soon named Regional Vice President of Codman and Shurtleff, Inc., the surgical instrument corporation of Johnson & Johnson, where he was responsible for the sales and marketing strategies in the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.

In the 1980’s he founded and developed several successful enterprises related to the healthcare field. Among the innovative products developed, manufactured, and marketed was a state-of-the-art electrosurgical scalpel; a patented process that coated electrosurgical blades to prevent tissue adherence; helped form a biotech research company that developed a successful process using monoclonal antibodies and a fluorescence technique that successfully determined the sex of a bovine embryo; developed, marketed, and distributed a miniaturized laser that was used on the posterior capsule of the eye after cataract surgery; and developed and enhanced the design of a microsurgical instrument that was used for RK surgery (radial keratotomy).

A firm believer in social responsibility, he serves as member of the College of Business Advisory Board of Frostburg State University, Board Member of the charitable organization Food for the Poor, Inc., and an active member of his local church. He continues to keep close ties with many of the Frostburg State University alumni and many of his fraternity brothers from that era (TKE).

In 1967, Jordan married Charlotte Couzens, class of 1962. They have two children, Alison Jordan Lathrop, Esq. and Michael Couzens Jordan, M.D. Alison is the senior environmental attorney for Delta Airlines and resides in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband Bill, an executive for the Coca-Cola Company. Michael is a pediatrician and resides in Palm Harbor, Florida, with his wife Beth and their daughters Elizabeth Ann and Lily. Ralph and Charlotte have lived in Dunedin, Florida, for over 25 years.
