Breathtaking Brazil and Destination China

Frostburg State University’s College of Business is taking another bold step in internationalizing its curriculum this summer as part of its Global Experiential Learning initiative.

One of the scheduled summer 2015 trips will include Breathtaking Brazil. This trip will run from June 1 through June 10, 2015.

As part of this faculty-led study abroad trip, students earn college credits in a land steeped in culture, celebration and contrast. Brazil boasts white-sand beaches, the Amazon rain-forest, Carnival, football (host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup) and its music-filled colorful cities. This country covers nearly half of South America and is the only Portuguese-speaking country on the continent. Its population is about 190 million. It is home to many different ecosystems. Brazil, a fast-growing developing economy with enormous potential, is named one of the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India China); each is deemed to be at a similar stage of economic development.

Students will have the opportunity to visit Brazil's two largest cities, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, respectively. They will also tour a local university and speak and collaborate with local students. Become immersed in this South American culture!!

The second trip that the College of Business will be supporting is Destination China. This trip will take place from May 29th to June 9th, 2015.

As part of this faculty-led trip, students will have an opportunity to learn about the fascinating contrasts and coexisting contradictions that make China such an enigmatic country. China, as a country with an extensive and rich past, is carefully weighing how to construct its modern identity as a leader in the global economy. As one of the fastest growing economies in the world, the country is still balancing prosperity in the urban centers on the coast, with the struggle to develop in the rural, inland areas. Along the way, students will visit important historical and cultural landmarks, as well as, interact with Chinese students, professors and business leaders. The trip will be embedded within online course work in the summer.
