NEWS - FSUBusiness' Dean Arnold and Professor Tootoonchi Release New Leadership Book "101 Leadership Tips "

Dr. Danny Arnold, Dean of FSU's College of Business, and Dr. Ahmad Tootoonchi, Chair of the Department of Management, were inspired to pursue writing a book together after conducting a Leadership Development workshop with FSU department chairs. Arnold focused on the importance of vision and how managers can effectively deal with complicated situations and continue to make progress until a group's goal is achieved. Tootoonchi, who has spent many years studying leadership and emotional intelligence, presented information about how certain rational and emotional elements of leadership can create a culture of unity and energize groups to reach their goals. They received such positive feedback from participants that they decided to take their knowledge to the next level and put together a helpful book that would address leadership issues at all levels.

“Most leadership books currently in the market focus primarily on leadership at the top of business organizations,” Tootoonchi said. “Our book is unique in the way that it covers both day-to-day management activities as well as higher order leadership dimensions such as vision, judgment, empowerment, ethics and integrity.”

Published by Pearson-Prentice Hall, the 75-page book is available for purchase at Amazon.com, and is designed for a broad spectrum of readers who want to learn more about leadership.

NEWS - FSUBusiness Professor Offstein Releases New Leadership Book "Stand Your Ground"

Dr. Evan Offstein, Assistant Professor in the Department of Management, released his highly acclaimed new book titled, "Stand Your Ground: Building Honorable Leaders the West Point Way" on August 30, 2006. The book focuses on building legitimacy through honorable leadership.

Dr. Offstein approached leaders at the U.S. Military Academy and the Department of the Army with two primary questions: (1) How does West Point develop its leaders?; (2) Can other individuals and organizations apply these principles effectively? Two years and dozens of interviews later, he offers unprecedented access to the process of leadership development at West Point. With an explicit mission to produce "honorable" leaders, West Point invests heavily in mentoring, training, and evaluation to ensure the character development of its 4,000 cadets. West Point has groomed leaders whose contributions far exceed the successful management of their immediate charges. By illuminating the principles by which West Point teaches leadership, Stand Your Ground not only provides a unique tour behind the scenes at this revered institution, but, more generally, imparts lessons of honor and character-building that can be adopted by any aspiring leader.

In addition to his role at FSUBusiness, Dr. Offstein is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and a former military intelligence officer. He also served as an Instructor in the Department of Management, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
