Call for Proposals

What: FSU's TASTE Conference is a gathering of faculty, staff, and others who share their expertise and experiences in teaching and learning.  It is a full day and a half of presentations and workshops offering information on what’s new at FSU, plus practical tips for your face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.

Where:  Frostburg State University, Lane Center and Pullen Hall

  • Wednesday, May 28, 2014
  • Thursday, May 29, 2014

Why:  This is an opportunity to share your expertise and knowledge with your peers and to contribute to the FSU community.

  • Do you use Web 2.0 applications or other technologies in the classroom and/or in your online or hybrid courses?
  • Do you have an innovative activity that engages students or other teaching strategies or tools that you’d like to share?
  • Are looking for a way to serve the University and share your expertise and knowledge with your peers?

If you answer yes to any of these questions, this might be an opportunity for you. We are looking for faculty and staff who are interested in sharing their teaching activities and technologies for our annual TASTE event.

At the completion of the conference, presenters will receive a certificate of appreciation for their consideration and commitment to serving the FSU community.

About the sessions:

There are two session types: presentations and workshops.  Both types should allow for interaction and engagement of the audience.

50-minute presentation:  The format for presentations should be half presentation of material and about half interaction or questions and answers.  Choose this format if you have an activity and think you can finish it within the time frame.

75-minute workshop:  The format for workshops should be about 1/3 presentation and about 2/3 activity, interaction, questions and answers.  A workshop is designated as highly interactive where participants are engaged in an activity and you think you will need 75 minutes to complete the activity.

Tracks:  There are few defined tracks.  Please think about your activity, and select the appropriate track on the submission form.  The tracks are:

  • Web 2.0 (e.g., Podcasts, Wikis, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Second Life, Google Docs, Voki, Pinterest)
  • Teaching and Learning Technologies (e.g., SMART board, Clickers, Mobile Devices, Blackboard, Power Point, Elluminate)
  • Teaching and Learning Strategies (e.g. rubrics, ice breakers, assessment, motivating students, 1st day activities, etc.)
  • Information Technology (e.g. computer security, online security)
  • Vendor (If you are a vendor for TASTE and are planning a session, you will select this track.)
