Instructional Design and Technology

The Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) Department at Frostburg State University (FSU) is available to assist faculty in all aspects of traditional, blended, and online teaching. IDT staff utilize best practices and principles in instructional design to help foster high quality education at FSU. Our staff oversee and support the online faculty certification program and the course review process to ensure continuous improvement in online teaching. The department will assist with integrating instructional technology solutions into courses and with the use of the Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas, and other academic technology and tools. Mission Objectives

  • Support faculty in the design, development, and implementation of online, blended, and face-to-face courses and programs.
  • Provide technical and functional support for the university’s LMS and other related technology and tools.
  • Offer professional development, training, and consultations to faculty on pedagogical best practices as well as the university’s LMS and other related technology and tools.
  • Prepare faculty to teach in an online environment by mentoring them through the required Teaching Online Certification program.
  • Review online and blended courses to ensure superb quality, to measure against national standards, and to foster continuous course improvement.
  • Discover and implement emerging technologies.
  • Provide quality customer service to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain and enhance the technical and instructional design skills of the IDT staff.
