Before the web site project begins, identify the web page manager and make sure that person is part of the design team and receives proper training for maintaining the site. If possible, web pages should be designed and maintained using the same software program (e.g., Macromedia Dreamweaver). Frequently, web pages are designed with the help of outsiders such as graphic artists, computing professionals, writers and student web developers. After the initial work is done, these people are often no longer available to assist with maintaining the site. Units that will use outside help in creating their web presence must address the issue of ongoing maintenance before development begins.
