Information for Official Web Page Managers

Quick Overview for Official Web Page Managers

Quick Definitions . . .

Official FSU web sites are defined as the web pages of University divisions, colleges, departments, libraries, administrative and service offices, and other official units and programs which are controlled, operated, and maintained by University personnel in connection with University business.

An official web page manager is a faculty or staff member who has been assigned the responsibility of building and/or maintaining a unit's web pages. Click here to register as your unit's official web page manager.

Web Space for Official Web Sites
University colleges, departments, offices, divisions, or other units and programs will be granted space on FSU's official web server www.frostburg.edu. Fill out the FSU Web Publisher Agreement form to obtain web space (a directory). You will receive an e-mail message when the directory has been set up. Follow the instructions for publishing your web pages.

Required Software & Training
Macromedia Dreamweaver is the University-recommended web authoring software. It is available at the University Bookstore. In addition, it may be available at no charge to official web page managers of University unit web sites. Contact the FSU Webmaster (x3116) for details.

Hands-on classroom training on how to use the Dreamweaver software is offered several times throughout the year by the Office of Human Resources. In addition, the Developer Resources page contains links to several online tutorials.

Design & Development Standards & Guidelines
The Web Advisory Group develops standards for web page design and maintenance that are designed to facilitate information distribution and enhance the appeal and usefulness of University web sites. These standards and guidelines apply to all pages on official organizational web sites of University units.

Web Page Review and Approval
Before a unit's web page "goes live," it must be reviewed by the University's Web Advisory Group. This group, which includes the FSU Webmaster and representatives from each University division, recognizes the tremendous outreach potential of University web pages and, therefore, reviews web documents and makes suggestions for improving them.

To request that the committee review information from your department, complete the Request for Web Site Review. You should allow up to 10 business days for your review to be completed.

Assistance
The FSU Webmaster is available to assist and support all official web page managers in building and managing their unit web pages.
