Instructions for Setting Up a Connection to mirror.frostburg.edu

These instructions explain how to define a site in Dreamweaver. A site is a name assigned to identify a group of web pages that are tied to one another. The site definition includes settings necessary for the Dreamweaver software to connect to the FSU web server allowing you to move files between your computer and the web server.

Follow these instructions to define a site in Dreamweaver.

  1. Select File > New Site (or Site > New Site).

  2. In the Site Definition window you must enter the following values. Leave default settings for items not mentioned below.

    For Local Info Category

Site Name: enter a name to identify this site definition (Theatre Web site, for instance)

Local Root Folder: Select the folder on your computer where you will store your site web pages. Make sure your entry end with a slash "\"since it identifies an entire directory (c:\webpage\, for instance).

    HTTP Address: http://mirror.frostburg.edu/

For Web Server (or Remote) Info Category

    Server Access: (or Access:) FTP

    FTP Host: mirror.frostburg.edu

User ID/Login and Password: This information is e-mailed to you by the FSU Webmaster when your web publishing account is created and web space assigned. If you have misplaced your web account login information, contact the FSU Webmaster (x3116).

  3. Save this information.

  4. Then hit the connect button in Dreamweaver. When you make the connection, the web server files appear on the left hand side and your local computer files appear on the right hand side. Just drag and drop files back and forth to make your changes.

  5. To view and test any files that you upload to your directory on the mirror server you must use your web browser. In the URL/address field, type mirror.frostburg.edu/ followed by the name of the file you want to view.

  6. After you thoroughly test everything to verify that it is working correctly on the mirror site, e-mail a list of all new or changed files to the FSU Webmaster to have them moved to your directory on the live FSU web server, www.frostburg.edu.
