Instructions for Setting Up a Connection to faculty.frostburg.edu
These instructions explain how to define a site in Dreamweaver. A site
is a name assigned to identify a group of web pages that are tied to
one another. The site definition includes settings necessary for the
Dreamweaver software to connect to the FSU web server allowing you to
move files between your computer and the web server.
Follow these instructions to define a site in Dreamweaver.
- Select File > New Site (or Site > New
Site).
- In the Site Definition window you must enter the following values.
Leave default settings for items not mentioned below.
For Local Info Category
Site Name: enter a name to identify this
site definition (Vita site, for instance)
Local Root Folder: Select
the folder on your computer where you will store your site
web pages. Make
sure your entry end with a slash "\"since it identifies
an entire directory (c:\webpage\, for instance).
HTTP Address: http://faculty.frostburg.edu/
For Web Server (or Remote) Info Category
Server Access: (or Access:)
FTP
FTP Host: faculty.frostburg.edu
User ID/Login and Password: This information
is e-mailed to you by the FSU Webmaster when your web publishing
account is created and web space assigned. If you have misplaced
your web account login information, contact the FSU
Webmaster (x3116).
- Save this information.
- Then hit the connect button in Dreamweaver. When you make the connection,
the web server files appear on the left hand side and your local computer
files appear on the right hand side. Just drag and drop files back
and forth to make your changes.
- To view and test any files that you upload to your directory on the
mirror server you must use your web browser. In the URL/address field,
type faculty.frostburg.edu/ followed by the name of the file you want
to view.
