Mission Statement:

The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing provides a variety of opportunities in the literary arts for the greater Frostburg community (the Western Maryland panhandle, the Eastern West Virginia panhandle, and Southwestern Pennsylvania) including access to living writers, writing workshops, and radio programming. The Center also supports the publishing endeavors of living writers through the publication of two journals, on-line presentation of work, and programming that brings writers and publishers together.

Welcome

Housed in Tawes 215, The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing works to bring creative writing and writers to both Frostburg State University and the greater Frostburg community, including sections of Western Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

For information on the center's activities, download our newsletter, The Writer's Notepad (downloadable PDF file). The center's activities include bringing writers to campus for public readings, workshops, and discussions; the publication and distribution of the national literary journal Nightsun; production of Oasis, a short weekly radio program on WFWM; a reading space with contemporary literary journals and access to a selection of the Lannan videos featuring writers such as Li-Young Lee, Adrienne Rich, Louise Gluck, and Octavio Paz; and literary opportunities for students and community members.

Future goals for the center include the development of a creative writing house where visiting writers, students and community members could gather which would include a reading library of journals and books of contemporary literature; an annual writing conference; community workshops and internships; writing contests for area high school students; and creative writing forums/salons during which visiting and local writers would discuss a particular topic with community members and students.
