Music & Writing
A Workshop for Musicians, Writers
and Lovers of Music

November 14, 2009
Frostburg State University Campus

Beth Staley

Beth Staley is a poet, singer-songwriter, and scholar hailing from Morgantown, WV. Her poems have appeared in Kestrel, Crate, Hamilton Stone Review, Jacket and elsewhere, and she has performed original music at several clubs and cafes, notably opening for Liz Berlin and Jenn Wertz as well as Kaki King. She is currently teaching at West Virginia University, where she is pursuing a doctoral degree in late 19th- and 20th-century American literature—Emily Dickinson onward. Her craft class will focus on the dynamics of polyvocal and multi-perspective layers in song lyrics. We’ll think about how every singer has many voices—how every song has that many opportunities therein. And maybe more— Please bring an audio recording of and/or lyrics to one song you really admire.
