The Rules Poetry slams take the poem from the page and onto the stage, where your work is judged by an audience and by a panel of judges. In order to do well, like in all things, you have to know the rules. So here goes:

Come out Wednesday April 24th, 2013, to Dante's Bar to participate in the Poetry Slam, hosted by the Frostburg's Center for Creative Writing to kick off the 6th annual Indie Lit Festival. For a chance to win cash prizes, participants must read their poems on stage in front of a crowd of people and be judged on their performance and the quality of their writing.
Sign up starts at 7 the day of the program, slam starts at 7:30. Anyone over 18 can participate. Readers are encouraged to invite friends and family to help cheer them on. A $2 cover helps pay for the prizes.
