Savage River Arts
Savage River Arts is a collaborative program of the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing, the Savage River Watershed Association (and the Frostburg Museum) to promote environmental literacy and foster young people’s appreciation of the Savage River through the arts.
The first program of its kind in this area, Savage River Arts 2013 is geared to students 8 to 12 years old and includes a Poetry Workshop and an Art Workshop which will run concurrently from July 15 to July 19 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Workshops will be held in the New Germany State Park and the Savage River State Forest and be taught by professional poets, artists and naturalists from the Department of Natural Resources, the Hickory Center for Environmental Education and the Discovery Center at Deep Creek Lake.
Poetry and Art workshop participants will be eligible to show their paintings and poems in a “Savage River Reflections” student exhibition at the Frostburg Museum, scheduled for September 2013.
Participants will also be invited to submit their poetry and artwork to the international River of Words competition (www.riverofwords.org) organized by St. Mary’s College of California.

Registration Deadline is June 1, 2013. As classes are limited to fifteen students each, be sure to register early. Parents must provide transportation to and from the workshop and children will bring their own lunch.
