Field ExperiencesField experiences are part of the developmental process of becoming a teacher and are an important and powerful component of teacher education programs. In their field experiences our candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions that are aligned with the education program outcomes. The unit has always emphasized the importance of deliberately integrated and sequenced field and clinical experiences in professional education programs and has always valued the important contributions made to the program by field partners and colleagues. Since 1973, semester length student teaching internships have been the culminating capstone for all undergraduate teacher education programs. Consistent with the extended internship requirement of the Maryland Redesign for Teacher Education (1995), Frostburg State University has moved to merge its undergraduate pre-internship assistantship semester with its full-length internship semester to create an intensive, extended experience of at least 100 days in the same school setting or settings for all initial certification candidates. The Master of Arts in Teaching internship exceeds the 100-day expectation. Similarly, at the graduate levels, extensive, collaboratively developed practicum capstone experiences have characterized the graduate programs in Administration and Supervision and School Counseling and are also included in our new Master's level program in Special Education.
