Frostburg State University's Social Studies majors who pursue teaching certification must have hours in the following areas in addition to all other major requirements listed in the Catalog:

Foundation Background: (42 hours)

History (12 hours):
HIST 103, 104 History of the United States
HIST 113,114 World History
Political Science (6 hours):
POSC 110 Intro to American Politics
POSC 114 Intro to World Politics
OR POSC 131 Comparative Politics
Economics (6 hours):
ECON 201 Macro Economics
ECON 202 Micro Economics
Geography (6 hours):
GEOG 104 Human Geography
GEOG 301 Geography of North America
OR GEOG 302 Geography of Maryland
Psychology (6 hours):
PSYC 150 General Psychology
PSYC 210 Child Development
OR PSYC 212 Adolescence and Adulthood
OR PSYC 220 Psychology of Women
Sociology (6 hours):
SOCI 100 (Introduction to Sociology
SOCI 305 Racial and Cultural Minorities
OR SOCI 224 Cultural Anthropology

Two Concentration Tracks: (9 hours each track)

History:
Any 9 hours at 300 or 400 level; one course must be Non-Western
Political Science:
1 course from each of the three departmental groups (see Catalog)
Economics:
9 hours from ECON 300, 303, 306, 307, 308, 309, 351, 352, 407, or 490
Geography:
1 course from each of the three departmental groups (see Catalog)
Psychology:
1 course from three of the four departmental groups (see Catalog)
Sociology:
SOCI 305 OR SOCI 224 (not taken in Foundation Background area) and 1 course from two of the three departmental groups (see Catalog)
