MAT Program - Hagerstown

This master's degree program provides "career-changers" and "late-deciders" with an opportunity to complete a master's degree and obtain eligibility for an elementary teaching certification. Additionally, candidates will have completed the state of Maryland's new reading course requirements for certification by the completion of the program. The MAT program provides educational theory and applies it in the elementary classroom in a combined university and Professional Development School experience (see MAT Education Graduate Program).

This full-time program is an intense 46 hours that is completed in thirteen months. Before entering the program, potential candidates must pass the Praxis I examination and have all state required undergraduate courses completed. New cohorts begin in May and complete the program the following June. It is advisable to have undergraduate transcripts reviewed in the fall to ensure time to complete any deficit undergraduate courses. Information sessions are held throughout the fall and early spring. The deadline for applications is March 1st. For information about the program call 240/527-2736 or 240/527-2741.
