Department of Educational Professions

PT3 Implementation Grant

"Interning in the New Millennium" is a U.S. Department of Education PT3 Implementation Grant. In recognition of the urgent need for technology-proficient educators, the U.S. Department of Education, with the support of Congress, offers this initiative to prepare tomorrow's teachers to use technology for improved teaching and learning.

The purpose of this grant is to ensure that the teacher candidates at both SU and FSU graduate with the technology skills required for state certification and that they are well prepared to use technology to address the needs of Maryland's diverse student population. The two institutions have defined three project goals that address their needs and ensure that graduates possess the required technology skills.

Grant Goals and Objectives

  • Goal 1: Redesign teacher education curricula and provide supporting professional development to faculty.

    Objective 1.1
Arts, Sciences, and Education faculty demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills to address the technology standards for preservice teachers in Maryland.
    Objective 1.2
Teacher education programs at SU and FSU will provide sufficient learning opportunities for pre-service teachers to achieve 100 percent of the MTTS.
  • Goal 2: Incorporate electronic portfolio development into preservice programs.
    Objective 2.1
Teacher education programs at SU and FSU will develop an on-going process, which enables teacher candidates to create digital portfolios throughout their teacher education progam culminating in final products that demonstrate their mastery of the Maryland technology standards.
    Objective 2.2
Teacher education programs will include a systematic program for assessment of teacher candidate electronic portfolios.
  • Goal 3: Teacher candidates' use of technology to support teaching and learning will increase.
    Objective 3.1
The teacher education programs will increase faculty/mentor/peer support for teacher candidates regarding technology during field experiences.
    Objective 3.2
The teacher education programs will provide increased access to technology for all teacher candidates during field experiences.
