Students and Parents PDS Experiences

The PDS partnership extends to students and their parents a broad range of advantages as a result of the university connection. Since the university’s teacher training field experiences are funneled through PDS’s, the partner schools are able to use the university students in a number of ways. In addition to the teaching internships, the university students are trained in tutoring, and work with each school’s students as the needs arise. They also assist with school and student supervision, thereby promoting a safer, more orderly, and more involved environment for the students. They participate in and contribute to school initiatives, field days, parent conferences, school performances, and the entire range activities typical of the teacher’s duties.

Since the interns are placed with quality mentor teachers, they learn to and teach well. Finally, they assist and promote research in effective instructional practices as a part of their university studies, often providing research results that assist partner schools and school divisions in instructional implementation and planning. These additional benefits flow directly down to individual students, thereby enriching the learning experience.
