What is a PDS?
The Professional Development School Partnership
Professional Development Schools (PDSs), like other schools, place success for all learners at the center of their mission. Unlike other schools, they define the learners as not only students, but also preservice and inservice teachers, as well as college/university faculty. Growing out of the national school reform efforts of the 1980s, the PDS is formed as a partnership between a university and one or more schools.
The Partnership engages in decision making among University, school, and community stakeholders in order to
- enhance preservice and inservice teacher development
- carry on action research to improve instruction
- improve student learning as a result of the partnership work.
